Homeless Healthcare
and Mobile Health Services
Clinica Sierra Vista's Homeless Healthcare and Mobile Health Services were created to overcome barriers to access by delivering medical and social services directly to those in need. Medical services are provided to homeless adults and children at our Homeless Clinic. Homeless medical patients must have a written referral from a provider or staff member in order to receive no-cost dental and medical care.
Dental treatment occurs at Clinica Sierra Vista's East Bakersfield Dental Center, located at 234 Baker Street, Suite 6. Dental care includes extractions, infection control, and palliative treatment. In rare instances, restorative dental procedures are offered to homeless patients who are completing addiction recovery, vocational training, or job-skill enhancement programs.
Respite care, known as rest and recovery, is available to homeless adults who are too ill to manage on the street or in a shelter, but not sick enough for hospitalization. Respite care is a short-term (10-14 days) opportunity for patients to recover from illness or injury in a safe place that provides nourishment, nursing care, medication instruction and other services. Intensive case management is provided, including linkage with job training, addiction and mental health treatment. Housing placement specialists are also available to offer assistance, especially with applying for benefits.
Clinica Sierra Vista's mobile van visits emergency shelters, low-income motels and homeless encampments. In addition to the services provided to people who are homeless Clinica Sierra Vista's mobile units visit local health fairs and schools in order to bring services to those who may not have adequate transportation to one of our health centers. The health fairs provide Clinica Sierra Vista a chance to make contact with the community and introduce the array of services that can be accessed through the health centers. The dental van often visits school locations in order to identify children who are in need of dental care.
