Women, Infants and Children (WIC)

What is WIC?

WIC is a supplemental Nutrition Education Program for Women, Infants and Children

What does WIC provide?

  • Nutrition and health education to help families eat well and be healthy
  • Personal counseling about nutrition
  • Breastfeeding support and assistance
  • Referral to health care and other kinds of help for families
  • Special healthy foods

Breastfeeding Support and Promotion

Our WIC program recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life and continued breastfeeding until at least 1 year of age. When circumstances warrant, the second best choice is to encourage moms to pump mother's milk and feed breast milk in a bottle. The third choice would be formula feeding.

Obesity Prevention

Our WIC program promotes a Healthy Eating and Active Living (HEAL) for all participants through individual and group education sessions.

Who qualifies for WIC?

  • Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or recently had a baby
  • Infants under 12 months old
  • Children under 5 years old

Other WIC requirements:

  • Meet the WIC income limits (bring proof)
